The Berkeley High School Development Group (BHSDG) is an independent nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation that was founded in 1991 by a group of parent volunteers to ensure the quality and excellence of Berkeley High School as the primary fundraising organization for the school. Our mission is to support and strengthen the educational experience of all BHS students by raising and distributing funds to enhance academic and other projects. We review grant applications each month from school community members including students, teachers and administrators for a wide array of programs, equipment and projects. Additionally we initiate programs, such as the DG Initiated Classroom Teacher Grant Program. In 2007 we offered each teacher $200 for any supplies/project/field trip they felt necessary, and more than 75% of teachers participated. In the spring semester of 2007, the DG started an after school tutoring program, recruiting BHS teachers to offer weekly tutoring sessions open to all students. We are a working board of parent volunteers. Our meetings are open; however, voting on grants and policy issues is limited to Board members. Elections are held biannually. The Development Group meets 10 times a year and we're always looking for volunteers to join us. We usually meet on the first Monday of the month at 7:00 in the high school College and Career Center.
